A master mariner and a committed proponent of the maritime users’ perspective, Rear Admiral Nick Lambert concluded a long naval operational career as the UK National Hydrographer in December 2012. He advises on a wide range of maritime issues including the importance of spatial data infrastructures and hydrography for maritime economies, the evolution of eNavigation and GNSS vulnerability, near or real time situational awareness (especially that derived from space based assets and applications), human factors, and training and education in the maritime sector.

Michael Owen is the VP Business Capture & Development for Maritime at Marlink.  

Mr. Owen has 20 years’ experience in technology sales management with companies ranging from small businesses to large multi-national corporations. The length of his career has been focused on solving problems with technical solutions ranging from software development to infrastructure solutions with a focus on business critical environments. Michael holds a M.B.A. in International Management from the University of Denver. He resides in Norway with his wife and two children.

Dimitris, although a chemical engineer, is working on computer technologies since 1982; even before MS-DOS! He started receiving Microsoft Certifications (MCPs, MCSE) from Windows NT4.0 era. He worked as a network administrator and participated in many project designs and implementation of computer networks.

Since 2000, he is involved with IT Security specialized in Industrial Systems Security. He participated in various IT security audit cases as ISMS ISO 27000 (IRCA) auditor.

As engineer, he started his career as a production engineer at Hellenic Fertilizers Co. in 1988. Since 1992 he is working in Motor Oil (Hellas) Corinth Refineries SA firstly as a production engineer and from 2000 as network and security administrator of the refinery’s DCS section. Finally, nowadays he is also the Training Head at the Refinery.

Dimitris has a University Degree in Chemical Engineering from NTUA (National Technical University of Athens, Greece) and an MBA in Industrial Computerized Systems. He is a member of the TEE (Technical Chamber of Greece), the ISACA International, the Education Committee of ISACA Athens Chapter and the EIP (Hellenic Institute of Informatics). He is the founder of LamdaSecurity.com, an information site about I.C.S. Security.

I have been doing risk consulting for technology enabled businesses with Deloitte for the past 14 years. I am now leading our Cyber Security Team and Deloitte Digital. Providing trust in a digital world, I am an internet hippie in disguise.

Panagiotis is Director within EY’s Advisory Practice. He is leading the Cyber Security and Data Protection & Privacy services, including EY’s Greek Advanced Security Center. Being one of the EY contact persons in the Central and South East Europe for such services he cooperates with multiple clients in Greece and abroad operating in a variety of industries such as Banking, Telecommunications, Oil & Gas, Consumer Products and Retail, and Transportation.

Prior to joining EY, he has worked for over 4 years in the IT function of a major Oil and Gas company in Greece.

Moreover, Panagiotis has assisted ENISA via the CEI List towards the work programme implementation by providing services as an expert in some domains. He is also an occasional lecturer at the Athens University of Economics and Business at the MSc of Information Systems, and a public speaker in several related events and conferences including also event and competitions in the startup community.

Finally, he holds a B.Sc. degree in Informatics and a M.Sc. degree in Information Systems (Scholarship from the National Funding Institute) from Athens University of Economic and Business. He also holds a CISSP Certification and a CISA Certification.

David Patraiko is the Director of Projects for The Nautical Institute, and coordinates its Technical, Professional Development and IMO Committees. He is responsible for developing and managing major Institute projects and he represents the professional interests of members in general shipping, training and technical forums.

Much of this work is aimed at assisting members of the Institute with continuous professional development. He has led research and produced many papers and articles on training, mentoring, electronic navigation, the associated ‘Human Element’ effects created by technology, and Marine Spatial Planning. He is currently involved with the international debate on e-Navigation and served as Chairman of the IALA e-navigation working group for Strategy and Operations (2006-2014), Chaired the Industry ECDIS Training Group, and is the current Chairman of the Green Awards Board of Experts.

After a brief period as an independent consultant and surveyor, in 1997 he accepted the position as Project Manager for The Nautical Institute, and became Director of Projects in 2003. A graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (US), he sailed on a variety of international vessels in his twelve years in the Merchant Navy (1985 – 1997). He holds an Unlimited Master Mariners licence, and was awarded an MBA degree from Henley Management College (UK).

The Nautical Institute is the recognised international professional body for qualified mariners and others with an interest in nautical science. Its purpose is to promote high standards of knowledge, qualifications and competence amongst those in control of sea-going craft, both afloat and ashore. The Institute holds Non-Governmental Organisation status at the International Maritime Organization.

Rossella Mattioli joined ENISA, the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security in 2013 and has over 10 years of experience in the IT industry. Her work focuses on enhancing the cyber security of Critical Infrastructures, IoT and transport infrastructure in Europe. Along the thematic reports and community engagement, she also coordinates ENISA’s expert groups related to Internet infrastructure, IoT, ICS/SCADA, Intelligent public transport and smart car cybersecurity. She holds a MSc in Engineering with main specialization in Cybersecurity at Tallinn University of Technology and she is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Mr. Bobys draws on 24 years of experience with technology startups, enterprise risk management, and new product development, spanning such disciplines as cybersecurity and integrated physical/electronic security systems in the maritime security space.

As Vice President of Global Strategies for HudsonAnalytix, Inc., a global maritime risk management firm, he is responsible for identifying new and emerging capabilities to bring to the global maritime industry. In this role he currently leads the company’s cyber risk management practice: HudsonAnalytix Cyber (“HA-Cyber”), which specializes in bringing to market best-in-class cyber risk management, assessment and threat information sharing solutions tailored specifically to the global maritime industry. In this capacity, he led the design and is currently leading the launch of HA-Cyber’s first to market maritime cybersecurity assessment and management platform, CyberLogix (www.hacyberlogix.com). In addition, he works closely with HudsonTrident, the company’s security arm, in supporting maritime clients with converged and evolving cyber-physical security requirements.

Mr. Bobys previously served in a variety of executive positions at such companies as Civitas Strategy Group, providing specialized advisory support to companies in the Homeland Security, Defense and Intelligence markets; as well as BAE Systems, Stanley, and CIBER, among others. He has also successfully co-founded several companies offering innovative, first-to-market capabilities in the cybersecurity, intelligence, and compliance management spaces. These include, among others, Axio, a niche advisory firm specializing in measuring enterprise cyber risk and the underwriting major cyber insurance instruments; Global Cyber Security, a provider of specialized cyber threat intelligence services; and Smart Security Group, a provider of security training and compliance management solutions for the global maritime security market.

In these roles he has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. He has successfully led numerous multi-disciplined teams on a diverse range of engagements involving ‘converged’ enterprise security and risk management, complex systems integration, and business transformation. In this capacity, he has supported a wide range of clients, including various U.S. Federal, State and Local Government bodies, including all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, NATO, and numerous allied governments in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. He currently advises the Organization of American States’ Inter-American Committee on Ports on matters of maritime cyber risk management and serves on the Delaware Bay Area Maritime Security Committee’s Sub-Committee on Cybersecurity.

George is working as an IT administrator and security expert in the shipping industry since 2010.

He has delivered various projects including vessels’ server deployment and installation, ERP deployment at office headquarters and Fleet and security auditing and upgrade, also managed efficient communications with vessels, such as database and file synchronization between vessels and office headquarters. He currently holds the position of IT Administrator and security expert in Gourdomichalis Maritime SA.

Joe Dauncey is Director of Security Engineering for Inmarsat. Joe has worked for 20 years in IT, Information and Cyber Security, with experience across Telecoms, Managed Services, Energy, Space, Maritime, Automotive and Aviation sectors.

Joe has delivered large enterprise security transformation programmes to notable success, driving change to people, process and technology elements of cybersecurity.

Joe is based in the United Kingdom and is continually challenged on the social implications of technology adoption by his three children.

Svend Lykke Larsen is Sales & Business Development Director for the leading Vessel IT services provider PALANTIR. He also has a background from the satellite communications industry as Managing Director for KVH Industries, Europe and prior to that sales, product and Global Key Account Management functions for the maritime electronics manufacturers Navico and Simrad/Kongsberg Maritime.

Asterios has over 20 years of assurance and consulting experience specialising in the areas of audit, IT governance, risk, security and compliance across many industry sectors including telecommunications, banking, technology, gaming, shipping and other highly technology dependent sectors.

He has held various roles at PwC over the last 10 years, including leading the Risk Assurance, Cyber and Forensics Technology practices in Greece. In this capacity, Asterios has led numerous complex IT risk and security management assignments for large private and public sector organisations within Greece and internationally. He has helped many clients assess and develop security and control frameworks to address emerging and changing financial, operating and technology risks based on best practice or compliance driven governance models and strategies. In addition, Asterios has supported a number of security breach, fraud and bribery related forensic investigations using advanced forensic capture and analysis tools and techniques.

He holds an MSc in Audit Management & Consulting from Birmingham City University (UK). He also is a qualified Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Chartered Accountant (CA).

Prof. N. Nikitakos is a graduate of Hellenic Naval Academy (1980) and holds a B.Sc. in Economics (University of Piraeus 1986) and 2 M.Sc. from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, USA (M.Sc. Electrical .Engineering. and M.Sc. in Appl. Mathematics ). He spent 25 years as Naval Officer (Captain H.N. ret.) and received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from National Technical University of Athens (1996).

He is Professor of Shipping Informatics and Communications. He holds 3 international patents and he was awarded from Lloyd’s List on Maritime Technological Innovation. He has published 5 books and many articles in international referred journals and conferences. He is a visiting scholar at Chinese Universities (HDU, SMU), Malaysian Universities (NMIT) and many European Universities. Since 2009 he is research fellow at the Center for Security Studies - KEMEA of the Hellenic Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection. He holds ISM, ISPS, PMP and PMI-RPM certifications.

Steve leads the cyber security division within Moore Stephens’ Governance, Risk & Assurance team. He has a wealth of cross-industry experience in designing, auditing and implementing governance, risk management and information security controls. 

Steve is a regular speaker on the impact technology has on modern organisations, and has held a number of influential industry roles, including being President of the ISACA London Chapter and is a member of the ICAEW IT faculty technical committee. Steve has directed and published high-profile reports in both financial services and the UK government, and has previously been the Head of Internal Audit in both the Shipping and Financial Service.

Mark Sutcliffe spent 6 years in the British Army serving with the The Royal Hussars (PWO). Two years working on the docks of Hartlepool and Bristol led to a passion for shipping and a career of 25 years with KGJS Gearbulk pool, GAC and Wilh. Wilhelmsen in both ship owning, operating and port agency disciplines.

Armed with energy and an ability to deliver, Mark wanted to back his instincts and a seven year evolution of carefully listening to the needs of CSOs and meeting incredibly supportive people has led to CSO Alliance.

Jordan Wylie is an experienced maritime security and risk management professional whose career started with 10 years’ service in the British Military as an intelligence and reconnaissance specialist, before entering the private maritime security sector in 2008. Jordan has provided maritime security and safety consultancy services to many of the world’s largest ship owners and is a retained consultant by several flag states, providing guidance on piracy, maritime terrorism, organised crime at sea and the maritime cyber security approach. Jordan has trained over 10,000 seafarers globally and also completed over 100 missions on board as a security team leader during the height of Somali based piracy, he is a UK MCA and Department for Transport approved ISPS and ISM training instructor.

Jordan holds a BA (Hons) in Marine Risk Management and an MA in Maritime Security Operations, where his much talked about thesis subject was; ‘Cyber Security; The Unknown Threat At Sea’, the catalyst for the free to join global maritime and offshore cyber awareness campaign, that he and his team are driving throughout the shipping industry – BE CYBER AWARE AT SEA .

Dr Alan Whitfield, CEO of Wididi UK, is a leading Information Solutions Architect and Programme Director with a unique combination of leadership, communication, facilitation, technical and analytical skills. Alan specialises in helping organisations adopt secure digital solutions that engage people - individuals, groups and entire communities - in key processes with relevant information, important conversations and useful contacts.

Alan has worked successfully at all levels of security clearance and management, including main Board, in UK Central Government, large commercial organisations and academia. Over many years and several generations of technology, he has used and developed ICT systems to significantly improve mission critical government and business processes, enabling breakthrough national change initiatives. Alexandros is the Chief Technology Officer of Navarino, a leading satellite telecommunications organisation.

He comes from a background in web applications, with an emphasis on security and performance optimisation. He has been the architect of major public portals including the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Official website, leading newspapers and a wide array of commercial sites.

Since joining Navarino in 2012 he has headed a redesign of internal systems, porting them to cloud-based architectures. He is currently overseeing the new cyber-security offerings of the company.

Alexandros holds a BSc in Computer Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of IEEE and has been a finalist in both the national Mathematics and Informatics Olympiads.
